Richmond Monument

Rebuilding the Past

Projects - Milling and Installing

Direct Dimensions traveled to Richmond, Virginia to 3D laser scan a decaying monument designed by architect Robert Mills for the Monumental Church.

Because of the non-treated marble that was used to build the tomb, the elements (rain, pollution) began to eat away at the stone causing it to "sugar" a process that literally turns the marble into a white powder.

In collaboration with John Milner Associates and the Historic Richmond Foundation, Direct Dimensions was able to deliver 3D models that would enable a rebuilding of the monument exactly as it was designed originally.
