Change is inevitable.
It comes much faster now than when we were kids, in ways we could never have imagined: Twitter? CS4? nCloth? Change can be good, difficult, challenging, rewarding, frightening and/or unpredictable. It helps to think of change as a positive, motivating and stimulating thing.
The 2009 AMI meeting's theme, Tradition and Transition, reflects the most positive thing about change: incorporating the best of the past into the best of the future. Taking the old and making it new again, repurposing for the better yet still respecting the inherent value of the original.
The 64th Annual AMI Meeting will be located in Richmond, VA, at the epicenter of some of this country's most historic land. Change happened here hundreds of years ago that still reverberates today. It's that kind of change, history, and excitement that we strive to replicate at the 64th Annual Meeting in Richmond.
Tradition and Transition is being held at the elegant Omni Richmond Hotel, in the heart of Richmond's Shockoe Slip & Bottom historic district. The Omni's Southern hospitality, merged with a contemporary setting overlooking the scenic James River, offers an ideal AMI locale.
This year's meeting will look ahead to the future by studying new paradigms in marketing and how to work with colleagues from previously unrelated fields. There will be discussion about how our new website is changing our community. We'll explore how medicine and biocommunications interweave, evolve and change with influences from the culture, environment, and the economy.
Richmond has dozens of attractions including The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Science Museum of Virginia, the Children's Museum of Richmond, the Virginia Aviation Museum, the Richmond International Raceway, Belle Isle, and Maymont Park and Zoo. Richmond is only two hours from both the lovely barrier islands of the Atlantic shore and the hustle and bustle of Washington D.C. Major amusement parks, Colonial Williamsburg, and many, many more attractions make this a wonderful place to vacation!
